An Analysis of Pedestrian Queueing
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper considers the steady state queueing properties of pedestrians who are delayed by traffic on a main road. It is assumed that the size of the gap between two successive cars dete rmines the probability that an individual pedestrian or a group of pedestrians will cross. The technique of imbedded Markov chains yields many new results as well as some previously found , by co mbinatorial methods by Tanner in 1951.

Excluded Volume Effect in Queueing Theory
We have introduced excluded volume effect, which is an important factor to model a realistic pedestrian queue, into queueing theory. The probability distributions of pedestrian number and pedestrian waiting time in a queue have been calculated exactly. Due to time needed to close up the queue, the mean number of pedestrians increases as pedestrian arrival probability (λ) and leaving probability...
متن کاملVideo-Based Monitoring of Pedestrian Movements at Signalized Intersections
Pedestrian and cyclist crossing characteristics are important for the design of urban intersections and signalized crossings. Parameters, such as waiting time, crossing time, and arrival rate are key variables for describing pedestrian characteristics and improving crossing design and signal timing plan. Manually collecting such data is often extremely labor intensive. Therefore, we introduce a...
متن کاملDynamic Analysis of Suspension Footbridges Using an Actual Pedestrian Load Model Compared with EUR23984 EN Requirements
The suspension footbridges are very flexible due to their geometrical structure; hence they may face severe vibration problems induced mainly by natural forces and pedestrians crossing. By exceeding a certain limit, these vibrations can disturb the serviceability of the bridge as well as health and safety of the structure and pedestrians. Therefore, standard design guidelines are sets of recomm...
متن کاملCrash Injury Analysis of Knee Joint Considering Pedestrian Safety
Background: Lower extremity injuries are frequently observed in car-to-pedestrian accidents and due to the bumper height of most cars, knee joint is one of the most damaged body parts in car-to-pedestrian collisions. Objective: The aim of this paper is first to provide an accurate Finite Element model of the knee joint and second to investigate lower limb impact biomechanics in car-to-pede...
متن کاملEmergency Location Problems with an M/G/k Queueing System
Since late 1960's, the emergency location problems, fire stations and medical emergency services have attracted the attention of researchers. Mathematical models, both deterministic and probabilistic, have been proposed and applied to find suitable locations for such facilities in many urban and rural areas. Here, we review some models proposed for finding the location of such facilities, wit...
